Simpro Alternatives for Small Contractors (2026)

Simpro is built for contractors who run service calls, projects and a stockroom all at once. Electrical, fire, security and HVAC companies use it for estimates, scheduling, inventory and a mobile app, and it scales up to companies with a thousand people on staff.

That's also why small crews start looking for a Simpro alternative. Prices only come after a demo. Digital forms, GPS and maintenance planning are add-ons. And reviewers on G2 describe a setup that takes months, not days. A five-person electrical or fire inspection crew usually wants something it can turn on this week.

This guide compares six options for contractors who looked at Simpro, or are on it now, and want a simpler fit. We make Clevra, so it's listed first. We'll also say where Simpro and the bigger platforms do more, because for inventory and project work they do.

Prices were checked on each company's own site on October 28, 2026.

Simpro alternatives in one minute

  • Clevra: trade and inspection crews of 1 to 15 people that want published prices, inspection reports, estimates, scheduling and invoicing in one app, plus an AI Receptionist add-on. Free plan; reports on Pro.
  • ServiceTrade: commercial fire, life safety and mechanical contractors that live on deficiencies and inspection compliance.
  • BuildOps: commercial contractors that run service and projects side by side, with AI built in.
  • FieldEdge: HVAC-first residential and light commercial shops that want flat-rate pricing and QuickBooks Desktop.
  • FieldPulse: residential trade companies that want an all-round platform priced per seat.
  • ServiceTitan: large residential and commercial contractors with call centers and marketing budgets.

Why small contractors look past Simpro

Simpro does a lot, and plenty of mid-size contractors are happy on it. The complaints that come up most in G2 and Capterra reviews are about fit for a small shop:

  • Pricing you can't see. The pricing page has a "Request Pricing" button and no numbers. One third-party review site puts it at $150 to $300 per user a month on an annual contract; Simpro doesn't confirm that.
  • Add-ons for everyday work. Digital forms, the maintenance planner, GPS tracking, takeoffs and SMS are sold on top of Simpro Premium.
  • A long rollout. G2 reviewers mention about three months to get set up, and some say implementation cost thousands.
  • Support and the mobile app. Slow ticket replies and app sync errors show up in reviews again and again.
  • Contracts. A few reviewers describe exit fees when they tried to leave.

Pricing at a glance

Five of the six options here don't publish prices. That alone tells you who they're built for.

  • Clevra: Free $0 for 1 user; Pro $49/mo or $39 billed yearly for up to 5 users; Business $99/mo or $79 yearly for up to 15; Custom on request. Pro or Business free for 14 days, no card.
  • Simpro: not published; request pricing. Forms, GPS and maintenance planning are add-ons.
  • ServiceTrade: not published; Select, Premium and Enterprise, priced by team size.
  • BuildOps: not published; priced by field and office users, with implementation included.
  • FieldEdge: not published; Select, Premier and Elite. No free trial.
  • FieldPulse: not published; seat-based, priced per company.
  • ServiceTitan: not published; priced per technician.

Six options, in detail

1. Clevra: for small crews that want the report, the estimate and the invoice in one app

Clevra is one web app that takes a job from the first call to the paid invoice, with a Technician app for the field (iOS, in beta on TestFlight). It's built for 1 to 15 people: an electrician and an apprentice, or a fire protection company with four techs and someone in the office.

The inspection report. Build your extinguisher, emergency lighting or panel inspection once as a checklist: yes/no items, readings, dropdowns, photos and a signature. Fill it in on site, and Clevra turns it into a numbered inspection report with your logo, a cover photo and numbered photos. The building manager gets it by email or a secure link. If a report needs fixing, the revision keeps a reason and a history. Reports are on Pro and up.

The deficiency becomes the next job. Three extinguishers past their hydro date and a failed exit sign? Price them from your price book, send the estimate, and the property manager approves it online. Approved estimates turn into jobs, and Pro sends up to two follow-ups if nobody answers.

Schedule, invoice, get paid. The calendar has day, week and month views, a map and drag-and-drop on desktop. Monthly checks can run as recurring visits; annual inspections get booked on their due date. Generate Invoice on the finished job, and the client pays by card from the link with no Clevra platform fee. QuickBooks Online sync is on Pro and up.

AI. The AI Receptionist answers your Clevra business number while you're on a ladder in a stairwell, takes down what the caller needs, reads it back and files it as a request. Emergency calls go through to your emergency number. It's an add-on for Pro and Business; book a demo to switch it on. On Pro and up, the AI Business Assistant answers questions from your own data, like "Which buildings are due for annual inspections next month?"

Pricing. Flat per company, not per technician (compare plans):

  • Free: $0 for 1 user, no time limit (inspection reports start on Pro)
  • Pro: $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly, up to 5 users
  • Business: $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, up to 15 users
  • Custom: unlimited users, pricing on request

Most crews set it up the same day. There's no implementation fee.

Where Clevra falls short. Clevra has no inventory, wholesaler price feeds or takeoffs, so Simpro is ahead for stock-heavy and project work. There's no GPS tracking, progress billing or good-better-best estimate options. It doesn't file with compliance portals. Self-serve plans stop at 15 users. The Technician app can't take photos yet, so photo questions are filled from the web app. There's no Android app, and card payments are in US dollars only.

2. ServiceTrade

ServiceTrade started in 2012 in Durham, North Carolina, and works with commercial fire and life safety, mechanical, electrical, refrigeration and kitchen exhaust contractors. Techs capture deficiencies on site, and the office turns them into estimates. Its Fire Premium plan adds inspection and compliance workflows and a Brycer integration for filing reports with local jurisdictions. It lists more than 1,300 customers.

Pricing isn't published. Select, Premium and Enterprise are priced by team size, and Select includes unlimited office users. Its AI tools sit on Premium and up. If you file fire reports with a jurisdiction's compliance portal every week, ServiceTrade does that and Clevra doesn't. See our ServiceTrade alternatives guide.

3. BuildOps

BuildOps is a Los Angeles company that raised $127 million at a $1 billion valuation in March 2025. It's built for commercial mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire and refrigeration contractors that run service work and projects together: dispatch, preventive maintenance, purchasing, inventory and project financials. Its OpsAI tools scan equipment nameplates and draft invoices.

Prices are on request, based on your field and office users, with implementation included. Fleet, payments and CRM are paid add-ons. It says more than 1,500 contractors use it. More in our BuildOps alternatives guide.

4. FieldEdge

FieldEdge goes back to 1980, when it was called dESCO, and today belongs to Xplor. It's strongest with HVAC companies and also covers plumbing and electrical. Flat-rate pricing, service agreements, custom forms and both QuickBooks Online and Desktop are the draws.

Select, Premier and Elite are all request-pricing, and its pricing page says there's no free trial. Multi-option estimates start on Premier; warehouse inventory is Elite only. See our FieldEdge alternatives guide.

5. FieldPulse

FieldPulse is a Dallas company founded in 2015 that raised a $50 million Series C in August 2025. It covers estimates, scheduling, inventory and maintenance agreements for HVAC, electrical, plumbing and other residential trades. Its Maverick AI assistant is included on every plan; Operator AI, its call answering, is a paid add-on.

Pricing is seat-based and not published. Custom forms, the price book and fleet tracking are premium add-ons. See our FieldPulse alternatives guide.

6. ServiceTitan

ServiceTitan is the big name in trade software, public on Nasdaq since December 2024, with about 10,800 active customers. It does call booking, marketing, payroll and memberships for large residential and commercial contractors, and its Atlas AI works across the platform.

Pricing is per technician and not published. It's a bigger system than Simpro, not a smaller one, so it fits contractors who are growing past 30 or 40 techs. See our ServiceTitan alternatives guide.

Fire and electrical inspections

For fire protection and electrical inspection work, the report is what the client pays for. A building manager wants to see every extinguisher, every exit sign and every failed item, with photos and a signature, before the fire marshal asks.

Three things decide which software fits:

  1. Who builds the forms. Simpro's Digital Forms and ServiceTrade's Fire Premium give you more ready-made inspection workflows. In Clevra, you build your own checklist once and reuse it on every visit.
  2. Where the report goes. If your jurisdiction takes reports through a compliance portal, ServiceTrade's Brycer integration files them. Clevra sends the report to your client by email or secure link, and you file with the city yourself.
  3. How fast a deficiency turns into money. Count the clicks from a failed item to a sent estimate. That's where small crews win or lose the repair work.

How to pick

  • You carry a lot of stock or run projects with progress billing: Simpro or BuildOps.
  • You're a commercial fire contractor filing with compliance portals: ServiceTrade.
  • You're an HVAC shop on QuickBooks Desktop: FieldEdge.
  • You're growing past 30 techs with a call center: ServiceTitan.
  • You're 1 to 15 people and want published prices, inspection reports and invoicing you can set up today: Clevra.

Simpro alternatives FAQ

What is the best Simpro alternative for a small contractor?

It depends on what you'd miss. If inventory and project billing matter most, look at BuildOps. If you're a commercial fire contractor, ServiceTrade. If you're 1 to 15 people and want inspection reports, estimates, scheduling and invoicing at a published price, Clevra.

How much does Simpro cost?

Simpro doesn't publish prices. You request pricing after a demo, and forms, GPS and maintenance planning are add-ons. One third-party review site puts it at $150 to $300 per user a month on an annual contract.

Is there a free alternative to Simpro?

Clevra has a free plan for one user with unlimited clients, estimates, jobs, invoices and card payments. Inspection reports start on Pro at $49 a month for up to 5 users. The other options here don't have free plans.

What software do fire protection companies use for inspections?

Commercial fire contractors often use ServiceTrade, Simpro or BuildOps. Smaller fire and extinguisher companies use Clevra to fill the inspection on site and send a numbered PDF report to the client, then turn deficiencies into estimates.

Who owns Simpro?

Simpro Group, which also owns AroFlo, ClockShark and BigChange. It was founded in Brisbane in 2002, took a $350 million-plus growth investment led by K1 Investment Management in 2021, and now lists a Miami headquarters.

How long does it take to switch from Simpro to Clevra?

Most small crews are running in a day. Import clients from a CSV or Excel file, build your price book and checklists, and send your next estimate from Clevra. There's no implementation fee.
